About the Nigeria Aquatics Federation

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) formerly known as the Nigeria Swimming Federation is a sports association that was ascertained by the National Sports Council to govern the aquatic disciplines of Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Water Polo, Diving, Synchronized Swimming, High Diving and Masters Swimming in Nigeria.

The federation invents policies and strategies that ensure the grassroots development of swimming as a sport, its associated programs and competitions within and outside the country.

The federation is officially connected to some other organizations. These affiliates are the International Swimming Federation (FINA, now World Aquatics), African Swimming Confederation (CANA, now Africa Aquatics), and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

It also connects all other associations in the federal capital territory and other geographical areas in Nigeria that contribute to the development and promotion of swimming sport and related other aquatic disciplines.

Getting involved in Swimming in Nigeria

Whether you want to take part, coach, officiate, organise an event or simply support the sport in Nigeria, the organisations listed on this page are the official place to start. A few tips before you get in touch:

  • Athletes and parents: ask about registered clubs and state associations near you, age-group and grassroots programmes, and the documents you need to register.
  • Coaches and officials: ask which courses and licences the federation recognises, and how they link to the sport’s international governing body.
  • Schools, companies and event organisers: ask about sanctioning, rules and approved officials before you announce a competition.
  • Check the details: officials and addresses can change after federation elections, so confirm by phone or email before you visit. Spotted a change? Tell SitesNG and we will update this page.
