About the Nigeria Wrestling Federation

Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) is the professional union of wrestling associations formed to bring together the affiliated wrestling groups and qualified players.

The sole aim of this association is to organize and administer wrestling sport, notably through competitions at national and international levels. NWF has conducted many competitions at the national level to train solid and energetic Nigerian youths to represent the country at international championships.

The federation was formed during the regime of the then president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, and was further inaugurated on the 27th day of September 1981.

Getting involved in Wrestling in Nigeria

Whether you want to take part, coach, officiate, organise an event or simply support the sport in Nigeria, the organisations listed on this page are the official place to start. A few tips before you get in touch:

• Athletes and parents: ask about registered clubs and state associations near you, age-group and grassroots programmes, and the documents you need to register.
• Coaches and officials: ask which courses and licences the federation recognises, and how they link to the sport’s international governing body.
• Schools, companies and event organisers: ask about sanctioning, rules and approved officials before you announce a competition.
• Check the details: officials and addresses can change after federation elections, so confirm by phone or email before you visit. Spotted a change? Tell SitesNG and we will update this page.
