The story
Manchester City have won all five league games under Enzo Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the summer. They top the table on 15 points, three clear of the champions Arsenal, and Erling Haaland leads the scoring chart with five goals.
Brighton 3-0 Arsenal on 19 September was the shock of the month. Fabian Hürzeler’s side climbed to third on 10 points and handed Mikel Arteta’s champions their only defeat so far.
Hat-trick and still beaten. Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey scored three times at the Etihad on 20 September, but City won 5-3. Bruno Fernandes is the league’s other hat-trick scorer, in Manchester United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich Town on 30 August.
Next up: Liverpool v Manchester City. Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool are unbeaten (two wins, three draws) and host City on Sunday 11 October, kick-off 16:30 WAT. At the bottom, Fulham and Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham have two points each; Spurs visit Manchester United on 10 October.
