About the Nigeria Polo Federation
Nigerian Polo Association (NPA) which is today known as the Nigeria Polo Federation (NPF) is the national association of polo sports that is established to promote sportsmanship and generally to administer the sport of polo in Nigeria. It was formed decades of years ago under the leadership of Emir Alhaji Muhammadu Dikko.
The ruling body, Nigerian Polo Federation was initiated in the early 20s and was headed by Sir Nagogo, known and addressed as the Father of Nigerian polo. He was the chief leader of the sport whose extensive travels brought international recognition for the country.
NPF mapped out small cups and prizes to encourage and groom young Nigerians who would play in major cups in the future times. Some of these cups included Usman Nagogo Memorial Cup, Dikko Memorial Cup, Vice President Cup, the Governor Cup, Muhammadu Kabir Cup, Lawal Kaita Cup, Maidabino Cup and the major ones such as the tournaments biggest honour, Nigerian cup; General Hassan cup, Talba and Commassie cups.
The current Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, who started playing polo in the early 1980s, remains one of the leading figures of Nigerian polo, and the federation is led by president Francis Ogboro, re-elected in January 2025.
Since the existence of the association, it has been offering sponsorship and management for championships at the national level which some of them includes International Lagos Polo Tournament, Kano NPF Tournament and Jos NPF Tournament among others.
